From Lived Experience to Leadership: Dr. Mark Horowitz Interviews Angie Peacock

About the event

Join us for an intimate and honest conversation between two of the most respected voices in psychiatric drug withdrawal: Dr. Mark Horowitz, psychiatrist and researcher, and Angie Peacock, trauma-informed peer support leader and veteran with lived experience of psychiatric overmedication and recovery.

This is not a lecture. It’s a rare chance to witness two people speak candidly about what’s broken in our current approach to psychiatric drugs, how what they experienced led them to their current roles as empowering leaders, and what safe healing can look like. Together, they’ll explore:

  • What gets overlooked in traditional psychiatric care

  • The science and reality of withdrawal — and why so many people aren’t prepared for it

  • Informed consent, harm reduction, and the ethics of deprescribing

  • Why hyperbolic tapering supports patients by minimizing the withdrawal symptom burden as they taper off of their antidepressants.

  • Peer support vs. clinical care — and why we need both

  • What autonomy and healing can look like beyond the system

Who is this for?

  • Anyone currently taking or considering tapering off psychiatric medications

  • Clinicians seeking to understand real-world withdrawal experiences

  • Peer support providers, therapists, caregivers, and advocates

  • Anyone interested in building safer, more humane mental health care systems

Speakers

Dr. Mark Horowitz, MBBS, PhD
Clinical Research Fellow in Psychiatry (NHS), Visiting Lecturer at King’s College London, and Co-Founder of Outro Health. Lead author of the Maudsley Deprescribing Guidelines and co-author of the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ guidelines on stopping antidepressants. Mark’s work is transforming the way clinicians view medication withdrawal and long-term use.

Angela Peacock, MSW, CPC
Army veteran, psychiatric drug withdrawal consultant, and internationally recognized leader in trauma-informed peer support. After surviving severe polypharmacy, Angela dedicated her life to supporting others through psychiatric drug withdrawal and advocating for transparency, informed consent, and patient-led care. She’s featured in the award-winning documentary Medicating Normal and runs over 15 peer circles monthly.
